Chinese Exclusion Act

In remembrance of the passing of the Chinese Exclusion Act (an evil affront to God and wicked disobedience to the Gospel), on May 15th, CCC centered the poems and voices written on the walls of Angel Island. So many of the ancestors of our congregation, past and current members themselves, were forced to pass through that place. They had to endure shame and embarrassment and a culture of suspicion and hate towards Chinese faces, while European immigrants passed through Ellis Island without experiencing much of the racism, sexism, and hatred, compared to hopeful immigrants who happened to be Chinese.

Our May 15th service centered this often-forgotten history with songs, hymns, sermon, story, called it sacred, and a gift for all Christians/US citizens to know, repent from, and consider as we progress to a better world.

We hope you can be with us next year as we remember the passing of the Chinese Exclusion Act and celebrate the resilience that Americans with Chinese faces had to endure, though we lament Asian Americans have had to for so long and continue to do so today.
